I can't believe it's been almost 2 weeks since my last post. Sorry about that, faithful readers! The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of activity. We just returned today from a weeklong vacation to Smith Mountain Lake...But more about that in my next post.
First, I had a few cute shots I wanted to post of our 4th of July Celebration. Since moving to Fuquay 4 years ago, our family's tradition has been to attend our town's fireworks which are always shot off on the 3rd. There are lots of inflatables and games to entertain the kids until it becomes dark enough for the fireworks to start. Sadly, just Geoff and the kids were able to go this year due to my mysterious ankle injury.
(A somewhat brief explanation: A few weeks ago, while on our beach vacation, my ankle started to hurt prior to and during a 6K run. It hasn't gotten better, in fact had been getting worse with swelling etc. After having x-rays and visiting a podiatrist, the only explanation I have been given is that it might be a bruised bone. On July 3rd I had just visited the podiatrist who had given me an aircast to wear to help take the pressure off of my ankle when I walked...Needless to say, I didn't want to wear the cast and have to walk the mile away that we usually have to park when we go to the fireworks. So, I stayed home...I know, what a party pooper!)
On the actual 4th, we were invited to our friends' Ward and Cam's for their annual celebration. They live about 1/2 mile from us on a very plantation-like property with buildings over 200 years old. We enjoyed some great southern hospitality, fellowship, and music on the lawn while waiting for their own awesome fireworks show to start.
Geoff and Emma did not feel like smiling for this picture. Why, you ask? Well, before supper, Emma and a bunch of kids were playing in a big Magnolia tree when a nest of yellow jackets decided to attack. Emma got stung at least 5 times and Geoff, trying to rescue Emma ended up getting stung a few times himself. After treating herself to a few sweets from the dessert table, Emma felt much better.
